Scoring; What’s the deal?
Jeffrey Bonacci: SBL Secretary
Since we have started bowling at Leisure Time Bowl this year, many people have come to me asking about the scoring system and how it works. I would just like to take this opportunity to go over some of the most common concerns regarding the scoring system and how it compares and differs from the scoring system we were all used to at Chelsea 300.

Major Differences:
The biggest difference between the scoring system at Leisure Time and the system at Chelsea 300 is the age of the program. Rocky, at 300, was good enough to make sure that the scoring system was updated all the time. It was also tied into all of the reporting that was done on our league in the past. As you know, you were able to see everything each week when we bowled, including scores, games won, wood won as well as series and high scores.

The AMF scoring system at Leisure Time is not only (or so I am told) over 12 years old, but it is a very basic scoring system. Though you can program in your averages and handicaps, in reality, it means very little, as everything is re-processed by me when I return home. If you would like to keep your handicaps and averages on the screen so you can judge how you are doing through the game, that is great. You don’t, however, need to be concerned that what you are seeing on the screen is 100% correct (as far as final scores) because I am going to total everything anyway.

You will notice that each week, we get a recap sheet for you to mark your scores on. This sheet is based off the same scoring system we are used to at Chelsea. You are encouraged to make sure that each of these are filled out. If you add the lines across and down, you will find the common totals and be able to accurately assess who has won not only each game, but wood and series as well. If you need help, or are unsure how to do this, please see me (Jeffrey Bonacci) and I will make sure to explain it all to you.

Pre-poulated names and averages:
I am sure you all have noticed that our names, sometimes, are not populated correctly on the score boards when we start to bowl. I have talked with Edwin (lane manager) and Patrick (general manager) about this and they have assured me that they have put all of our league’s name in the system. Sometimes, the computer has a problem where it re-shifts all of the lanes around. This is why our names don’t always show up on the correct lanes. Again, since this scoring system isn’t really tied to our bookeeping system, here is how you can take action.

If the names appear incorrectly, simply put in the correct names and averages if you choose. I would suggest each team assign one or two people on the team who would like to learn how the scoring system works so that this task can be taken care of quickly and our bowling can begin on time every week.

Blind bowlers:
Although all of us try to make it on time, there are just times that this will be impossible. The league rules state that a bowler is allowed to miss up to 4 frames before being completely blined. For the most part, if someone is late, they will miss an entire game. In the even that they actually make it there within the first four frames, here is how you can assure that they will be able to make up the frames that they have missed.

Before it is time for the blinded bowler to bowl, make sure you remove the blind setting. When it is their turn to bowl, it will cycle through until the bowler who was previously blinded catches up.

Pictures, Pictures!!!
Jeffrey Bonacci: SBL Secretary
Ok, folks! I would love to get some pictures of our wonderful league up on the website! Who's got the cameras? Who's got the talent to snap that fabulous "Candid"???

Contact me and let me know if you have any shots you would like to get up on the site.

USBC Sanction Fees
Thank you, everyone, for making sure that you USBC Sanction Fees were in on time. I really appreciate it. You should be expecting your official USBC Sanction Card within the next 6 to 8 weeks. If you do not receive it in this time frame, please make sure you tell me (Jeffrey Bonacci) and I will make sure that you receive yours.

Ross' Tip DuJour
Bowling Release
Ross Hewitt; SBL President

Wait until the ball is past your left foot (if you're a righty, right foot if you're a lefty), then release it. That puts the ball out on the alley (past the foul line) where it should be, and because it is in front of you, it gives you a better direction towards your target.
